The Libey Gallery invites the community during the month of May to visit two new exhibits by Colfax photographer, Naomi Taylor and former Colfax resident, Jerry Jones.
Naomi Taylor of “Gypsy Heart Photography” found inspiration and theme for this exhibit from life, family, and love of the Pacific Northwest. Growing up she traveled the Pacific Northwest with her mom showing dogs. Her mom taught her to see the beauty in little things and not rush. Naomi’s mom loved her photography and after she died unexpectedly, Naomi felt that through her photography was a way to keep her mom’s memory alive as well as share the beauty with others.
Former long-time Colfax resident and 55-year staff member of the Whitman County Gazette, Jerry Jones, shares paintings inspired by his travel to Australia. He was a member of the group study exchange from Rotary District 508 to Queensland and New South Wales, Australia in 1975. The photos taken during the tour were published by the Gazette in a booklet entitled, “Friends Down Under” and for the next 47 years he continued to add paintings of the people in the photos to his collection adding 5 new painting within the last 2 years. Through the paintings he hopes to provide an everyday look at people he met on the tour.
The Libey Gallery is located in The Bettie Steiger Center adjacent to Colfax Library. The gallery open hours are Monday-Friday 10:00 am to 6 pm and Saturday 1:00-5:00 pm.
