Hearthstone Restaurant & Bakery

Hearthstone Restaurant Bakery offers gourmet breakfasts and lunches –  everything from freshly baked old world artisan breads, pastries, espressos, fine teas, pastries and desserts. Harty and Marjorie Schmaehl, owners of the Hearthstone Lodge just two miles from Kamiah, purchased a downtown Kamiah building, then spent a year restoring it before opening their bakery in 2002. The building, which is eligible for the National Historic Registry, is 7500 square feet of elegance.  Guests eat and drink from fine vintage china in the midst of a large ornate backbar, tin ceilings, chandeliers, ornate moldings, and art displayed in the Victorian, Peacock, Tea Room and Great rooms. The Bakery’s red fir floors were milled from local trees and exterior bricks were made by a Kamiah brick company in 1912.

Maialina Pizzeria Napoletana

Maialina Pizzeria Napoletana, a popular downtown Moscow restaurant since 2013, is an authentic Neapolitan Pizzeria serving artisan pizza handcrafted by trained pizzaioli in the tradition of Naples, Italy, the birthplace of pizza. As with their other Moscow restaurant, Sangria Grille, chefs George Skandalos and Carly Lilly source both imported Italian and fresh, local ingredients from farmers and artisans in our area to prepare pizzas and rustic Italian dishes.

The Maialina website makes George and Carly’s priorities clear: “Our local farmers, ranchers, growers make what we do possible. We believe in the history and tradition of local agriculture and local, healthy food. Which is why our eggs, pork, beef, and many weekly hand truckloads of produce comes from straight from Moscow area family farms. We know our farmers. We’ve been to their farms. We love what they do for our community and we see it as a great honor to prepare and serve these lovely things to you, so we can all share in tradition and love of place.”
