If you are heading to Deary and the Pie Safe Bakery late spring to fall, keep going to Elk River and hike to free-falling Elk Creek Falls, cascading 300 feet to the creek and on to Dworshak Reservoir. Then north of Elk River is the Giant Cedar Grove Trail. A paved interpretive trail takes you to a 3,000 year old Western Red Cedar, the largest tree in North America east of the Cascade-Sierra Crest.
